Common Baseball & Softball Questions

What cage size fits my space?

Most home cages are 20’–40’ long and 10’–12’ wide. Leave about 3–5 ft of clearance around the frame. If you're installing indoors, a 9–10 ft ceiling works for tee/soft toss; higher is better for full swings.

What's the difference between poly & nylon?

Poly is fine for hobby or low-budget indoor cages. Nylon is the better choice for long-term durability.

Poly:

  • Stiffer with less give
  • Weather-resistant & waterproof
  • Less durable than nylon

Nylon:

  • More durable with high shock absorption
  • Lower maintenance over time
  • Resin Bond adds weather resistance (NetSeal for fully waterproof)
  • DuPont nylon is the highest quality

Can I install a cage myself?

Yes. Plan for two people and basic tools (socket set, ladder, mallet). Time varies by cage size and location (indoor vs. outdoor). Ground anchors or wall mounts help keep the net taut.

Smaller items ship parcel; cages, turf, and some screens ship freight. The carrier schedules delivery—inspect packaging before signing.

How many lanes fit my building?

Common lanes are 12–14’ wide. Example: a 60’L × 70’W room can often fit 4–5 lanes. Hitters need at least a 12' wide cage for comfort; dedicated pitching lanes can be 10' wide. Share your dimensions and we’ll sketch layouts.

What ceiling height do I need?

12–16 ft is ideal for full batting/pitching. Batting cage netting is 12' high with ~8–12″ of sag to contain balls, leaving ~11' playable height. Track & trolley systems let you retract cages for multi-use spaces.

Outdoor batting cage built by a customer with a full stance turf mat outdoors in grass surrounded by trees

What Customers Are Saying

“I ordered a full size batting cage, L-screen, turf, and some other miscellaneous parts to put it all together from Practice Sports. Everything was shipped quickly, my order was accurate, and it all appears to be of good quality. Their prices were the best around. I haven't had everything long enough to comment on the durability, but judging from what I'm seeing now, and from what I've seen of a friend's setup, I believe this cage will last us a long time.”
