From Napkin Sketch to the Baseball Facility of Your Dreams.

It started with a napkin sketch.

Dusty Downs was finally doing it.

He had been working hard at his lawn care business, but he’d had a longtime dream to open up a baseball facility. He knew it was finally time to start working towards that dream.

That’s when he found Practice Sports.

Dusty browsed our website, and put the batting cage installation hardware in his cart that he thought he might need.

He reached out to one of our facility experts with some questions, and Jake was happy to answer.

Jake and Dusty texted back and forth, and Jake asked for a sketch of the overall layout of the facility.

The Sketch

Dusty sent Jake this sketch:

Dusty’s napkin sketch may not look like much, but these sketches are the stuff that dreams are made of.

Not only does a sketch like this help us understand the client’s vision, it also helps the client better understand their own vision.

A sketch like this, ‘is enough to get started,’ said Jake. “It gives the client a sense of the space and what is possible in it.”

Not bad for a few unruled marker lines on some rough paper.

Ordering the Nets, Hardware, and Turf

Dusty entered the project ‘with a lot of hesitation,’ said Jake. And that’s not uncommon. A lot of our customers come to us with no experience in purchasing or installing batting cages. And there are a lot of components to batting cages. There’s the netting itself, the installation hardware, but also, turf, machines, and screens.

That’s why we’re here. We take the time to educate the customer on not only what they need, but why they need it.

Installation

Dusty hired a local general contractor to handle installation. We love that solution because it saves customers money. While we do have a few different crews that travel the country for facility installations, that option can be cost – prohibitive for clients with smaller budgets.
